KATEK SE enters into strategic partnership with Huf, acquiring electronics production in Düsseldorf
Düsseldorf/Munich/Memmingen – Strengthening its position on the way to becoming a European market leader and expanding its footprint in the automotive sector.
Electronics service provider KATEK SE, a portfolio company of PRIMEPULSE SE, will take over the SMT production of the Huf Group in Düsseldorf. The location will complement the rapidly growing group of companies with its existing German entities in Grassau, Memmingen, Mauerstetten, Frickenhausen and Wendlingen, as well as its entities in Bulgaria, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
The new entity KATEK Düsseldorf GmbH will be affiliated to KATEK Memmingen GmbH and is expected to employ the current 152 employees that will be transferred together with the SMT production lines including the associated service and administrative roles. Huf will continue to purchase printed circuit boards, control units and other preliminary products for door handle electronics, kick sensors and other locking and access systems from KATEK Düsseldorf GmbH.
A close strategic partnership established
“The acquisition of Huf's SMT production in Düsseldorf is another milestone in our expansion strategy. We welcome the staff of this entity to the new entity as part of our dynamic fleet. The excellent production facilities and the know-how of the employees in particular are an excellent addition to our production network, which is geared towards proximity to our customers”,
says KATEK SE-CEO Rainer Koppitz, welcoming the investment.
“We will quickly integrate the new entity into our group of companies, and in the medium term not only supply automotive customers such as Huf with our high-tech components, but also use these capacities for our other customers in telecommunications, medical and measurement technology. By working across sectors, we will be making ourselves immune to market fluctuations, which will allow us to further expand our product and customer portfolio with a targeted approach. Thanks to the increase in capacity utilisation and the resulting synergies, for instance in purchasing, we can certainly see sustainable prospects for this location”, says Koppitz.
KATEK SE is the electronics division of the technology-oriented PRIMEPULSE Group, which is headquartered in Munich. Klaus Weinmann, CEO of PRIMEPULSE SE, majority shareholder of KATEK: “The expansion of production capacities at the Düsseldorf site is a further step for the KATEK Group on its way to becoming one of the leading European service providers in the electronics sector. We will be contributing to the significant growth in the area of professional IoT applications as a long-term, reliable and innovative electronics partner for European industry.”
“With the KATEK Group, we have found an effective partner for our SMT production at the Düsseldorf site, which will achieve synergies in areas such as purchasing and technology in conjunction with the other members of the group. We welcome this solution, which will be of great benefit to our employees and customers,”
commented Huf CEO Tom Graf.
The completion of the transaction is currently subject to the approval of the German Competition Authority and is expected to be concluded by February 2020. The parties have agreed to not disclose the purchase price.
